Specialty Papers

Longview Fibre has the ability to modify the paper properties to meet the specific needs of our customers. The paper grades that are modified are generally considered to be specialty paper grades.

The specialty grades produced by Longview Fibre are made from a combination of several different pulp fibers. The fiber furnish can be modified mechanically and chemically to alter various properties of the paper produced.

Some paper properties that are important to our customers are: strength (tensile, tear, internal bond), thickness, porosity, water repellency, surface smoothness, acidity, and uniformity. One or more of these characteristics are emphasized when designing a grade of paper for a particular end use.

There are many end uses for these specialty grades. They range from paper that is coated with plastic to be used in food packaging to types of paper that are combined into parts for automobiles.

The specialty grades produced by Longview Fibre may not end up in products that have a Longview Fibre trademark. However, the average consumer comes in contact on a daily basis with a product that has been made from our paper.
